My very first post, this is an update on my writing
You are receiving this because I want to keep you updated on my journey of writing and publishing a book.
You are my friend
I’m launching this space because you are my friend, and I have visited with you about my journey to write a book and get it published. Last week, I emailed several friends to tell them I was invited to read my manuscript at Ecumen Lakeshore, a residential facility for senior citizens. A few of you responded later and asked how it went.
At the beginning of November, I attended a writer’s retreat north of Duluth. The leader, Rachael Hanel, talked about the importance of building an audience to help you celebrate and support your writing, and help sell your book.
Once a week
I’m experimenting with this space. I’m thinking of updating you with one email a week. The substack system gives an option for paid subscriptions, but I’m not offering anything special in return at this time. You will be able to unsubscribe.
I am still in the research stage of choosing a title and a book cover
I’m currently struggling to choose a title that would attract general readers.
Here are the titles I'm considering:
Do All the Good You Can: Growing up on the Coteau des Prairies
Fortunate Janette: Growing up in the Coteau des Prairies
Janette's story
Do All the Good You Can
Love Justice and Walk Humbly
Yellow Tulips
Cleaned and Pressed
Smartly Pressed
Growing up in the Coteau des Prairies
Her Magical Years
The Girl with the Can-Do Attitude
Play Jacks with Me
The photo cover below is an actual photo of the Fairley farm taken by Irene Fairly in 2022.
This is photo below is of Janette holding her doll, Sally, while the family Boston Terrier Heidi stands beside her. Many of my friends say this looks like me or my daughter, Rebecca.
This is the photo I like the best and considering it for the front cover.
Hmmm. The "Choosing a Title" Challenge.
All the short titles seem to need a subtitle.
I like the first for that reason, with the statement after the colon as a subtitle.
Just one person's opinion....
Keep pressing on.
